Postdoc position: Research Fellow in Interfacial Flows (Warwick University)

Research Fellow in Interfacial Flows
University of Warwick – Mathematics

Fixed Term Position for 2 years.

The Micro & Nano Flows Group at the University of Warwick are seeking a 2-year Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on the project Skating on Thin Nanofilms: How Liquid Drops Impact Solids. The 2-year position will be based in the Mathematics Institute and is funded by Leverhulme Trust and EPSRC grants.

The Research Fellow will exploit recent modelling advances achieved in this project which allow us to capture experimentally-observed gas nanofilms trapped under impacting liquid drops. They will then open up a new direction of research into the Leidenfrost phenomenon, in which drops are levitated above a solid surface by an evaporated vapour nanofilm. This will be in collaboration with our partners at Nokia Bell Labs who will provide us with custom environmentally-controlled experimental data, using with infrared and optical TIR surface imaging, to validate our models against.

The Group at Warwick is part of a consortium of three internationally-leading UK research institutions (with Daresbury Laboratory and University of Edinburgh) targeting the unconventional nano- and micro-scale fluid dynamics needed to simulate and design technologies of the future. This is funded by a flagship £3.4M EPSRC Programme Grant.

This is a fixed term post for 2 years. Start date is by arrangement, following interview.
