Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Tennessee

Post-Doctoral Research Associate – Chemical Engineering

Regular Full-time, Pay Grade 00

Post-Doctoral Research Associate Position

Area of Research: Molecular simulations of polyolefins

A joint post-doctoral position is available in the laboratories of Profs. Manolis Doxastakis  and Gila Stein  in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Research will focus on atomistic simulations of polyolefins, with an emphasis on crystallization. This project is part of a collaborative research program that includes three faculty at UTK (Doxastakis, Stein, and Long) and an industrial sponsor. There will be opportunities to publish research outcomes and for professional development in furtherance of an academic or industrial career path.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are seeking applicants with a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, materials engineering, chemistry, or physics who are experienced with molecular dynamics simulations of polymers, preferably using atomistic models.

We are seeking applicants who are experienced with molecular dynamics simulations of polymers/soft matter, preferably using atomistic models. Experience with modern parallel simulation software (GROMACS, LAMMPS) and with data analysis using Python is particularly desirable. Understanding of fundamental concepts in crystallography would also be beneficial. The candidate should have excellent communication skills (written and oral), a strong record of publications and conference presentations, and either experience or the will to learn experimental techniques (X-ray scattering) along with related data processing and analysis. The candidate should be self-motivated and able to work independently to accomplish project deliverables. The candidate should currently hold a PhD in chemical engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemistry, or physics; or a degree should be conferred by August 2021.

The position is available beginning Sep 1, 2021, for a one-year term with the possibility of renewal for an additional year based on performance. Prospective candidates should apply online at

Applicants should also send a copy of their CV (along with any questions) to either edoxasta@utk.edu or gstein4@utk.edu. A complete application requires 1) a concise cover letter summarizing the candidate’s research experience, qualifications, and interest in the position; 2) a curriculum vitae; and 3) contact information for three references. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
