The University of Edinburgh is seeking 2 talented and enthusiastic postdoctoral researchers to join the research group of Prof Jason Reese in Edinburgh University – to develop new insight into particle-laden flows and liquid-vapour fluid dynamics.

(1) Postdoctoral Research Associate in Discrete Particle Fluid Dynamics (University of Edinburgh, Engineering)

Fixed term position for 3 years. Closing Date: 1 October 2018

Particle-laden (granular) flows are important in a wide variety of engineering and industrial applications, including fluidised bed reactors, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and clean particle technologies. The principal objectives of this project are:
– to develop and validate a new parallelised, particle solver in the OpenFOAM software and to investigate particle laden flows;
– to work closely with a research team in Heriot-Watt University to implement, test and validate innovative gas/granular solvers in OpenFOAM for particle laden flows that deal with industrial-scale problems.

This position is to work directly with Dr Matthew Borg (matthew.borg@ed.ac.uk) and Prof Jason Reese in the School of Engineering in the University of Edinburgh, in close collaboration with Dr Kokou Dadzie and Prof Raffaella Ocone our partners in Heriot-Watt University.

The start date is January 2019 (or another date, by arrangement), and the position is fully funded for 3 years.

(2) Postdoctoral Research Associate in Kinetic Modelling of Liquid-Vapour Flows (University of Edinburgh, Engineering)

Fixed term position for 2.5 years. Closing Date: 16 October 2018

The principal objectives of this research project are:
– to apply and extend a mean-field kinetic theory approach to improve the fundamental understanding of non-equilibrium fluid flows involving phase change;
– to develop numerical codes for the efficient simulation of liquid-vapour flows at the micro/nano-scale, including evaporation/condensation of droplets, nucleation dynamics, and bubble collapse.

This position is to work with Dr Livio Gibelli, Dr Matthew Borg, and Prof Jason Reese, in the School of Engineering in the University of Edinburgh.

The start date is January 2019 (or another date, by arrangement), and the position is fully funded for 30 months.
